Two Ways to Work: Print Only or Print and Cut
The IColor 250 runs in two modes, and knowing the difference helps you plan your media costs before you buy.
| Print and Cut (Digital Die Cut) | Print Only (Pre Die Cut) | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Prints full color and cuts any custom shape you design in CustomCUT | Prints full color on labels that are already cut to shape |
| Media required | UNINET certified media with chipped hub (the chip activates the cutting blade) | UNINET or third party pre die cut rolls |
| Print width | 0.5 to 4.25 inches | 0.5 to 5 inches |
| Best for | Custom shapes, short runs, new designs, seasonal or batch specific labels | High volume of a repeat shape, lowest cost per label on standard formats |
Quick guide: if you want the freedom to cut any shape on demand, plan on UNINET certified media. If you run the same label shape over and over, pre die cut rolls keep your cost per label down and you can source them from third parties.
Why Choose the IColor 250
- One machine, complete workflow. Printer and digital cutter in a single desktop unit, so there is no separate cutting device to buy, learn, or maintain.
- No minimums, no waiting. Print a single label at a very low cost. Update ingredient lists, branding, or seasonal designs the same day instead of waiting on pre printed inventory.
- Maintenance free printing. Every replacement cartridge includes a new print head, so there is no head cleaning, flushing, or clogged nozzle downtime.
- Dye or pigment, your choice. Swap cartridges to match the job: dye based ink for vibrant, photo quality color, or pigment ink for durable, water resistant labels.
- Shelf ready quality. Up to 4800 x 1200 dpi resolution handles fine text, barcodes, photos, and gradients that hold up next to commercially printed packaging.
- Backed by a two year warranty and full documentation, setup videos, and lamination tutorials from UNINET.

How It Works

- Load. Insert your media roll. For digital die cutting, use UNINET certified media; the chipped hub tells the printer to engage the cutting blade.
- Print. The IColor 250 prints your design at up to 4800 x 1200 dpi using dye or pigment CMY ink.
- Cut. The built in cutter follows your cut path automatically, delivering finished, custom shaped labels ready to apply.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need special media for the cutter to work?
Yes. Digital die cutting requires UNINET certified media with a chipped hub that activates the cutting blade. This media also uses a special formulation that virtually eliminates paper dust during cutting. For print only jobs on pre die cut labels, third party media works fine.
Does it print black if the cartridge is CMY?
Yes. The cartridge produces process black by combining cyan, magenta, and yellow. For most label applications, including text and barcodes, the result is crisp and consistent at this resolution.
What is the difference between the dye and pigment cartridges?
Dye based ink delivers the most vibrant, photo quality color and suits indoor product labels. Pigment ink trades a little vibrancy for durability: it is water resistant and longer lasting, which makes it the better choice for bottles, bath products, and anything exposed to moisture or handling.
Does it work on a Mac?
The IColor 250 supports Windows 10 / 11 and Mac OS X 10.11 and newer. The Mac driver is a scaled down version, so we recommend running the CustomCUT software on a PC to get the full feature set.
Can it print waterproof labels for bottles and BOPP?
Yes. Pair the pigment ink cartridge with synthetic BOPP label stock for water resistant labels suited to beverages, personal care, and chemical products. A lamination mode is also available for extra durability.
How many labels can it produce in a day?
The IColor 250 is designed for small to mid size operations producing anywhere from a single label up to 3,000 labels per day.
Keep It Running: Consumables and Media
Plan your workflow around the consumables the IColor 250 uses: dye or pigment CMY cartridges (each with a fresh print head built in), UNINET certified digital die cut media in high gloss BOPP or premium gloss paper, and pre die cut rolls for print only production. Stocking the right media for your mode keeps your cost per label predictable and your production uninterrupted.
